The History of the Scholarship

The Scholarship Fund was established by the Rector and Wardens of St. John's Episcopal Church in 1968 from an undesignated bequest from Marian Becker, a long-time, faithful member of this parish.

Although not a wealthy individual, Marian's gift amounted to some $12,600. Since that time, other memorials and gifts have been added which has expanded the Fund considerably.

The capital and interest of the Fund are invested in the parish's General Account at First Community Bank and are used to provide scholarships for undergraduate education to all active parishioners, their children, step-children and grandchildren.

The Scholarship Fund Committee is comprised of the Rector and four parishioners appointed by the Vestry. Their term of service is not to exceed three years.

Funds are given no more than twice to the same applicant.
