Archangel Gabriel

1890, In Honor of Edward and Caroline A. Kilbourne

Archangel Gabriel,

Mayer of Munich

"The next angel affords some variety, being a very bright gothic-looking figure from Mayer of Munich. It is an artist's impression of the Archangel Gabriel and his horn. This memorial, dating to 1890, was in honor of Edward Kilbourne and his wife Caroline A. Edward was the brother of David Kilbourne, who established Kilbourne sub-division and for whom Kilbourne Park was named. Edward was a successful Keokuk merchant, who lived in a large home on Second and Morgan streets, next door to the Helen Palmer Gray residence. The original home served as a temporary place of worship before the construction of the present church, as the Kilbournes were instrumental in the formation of the Episcopal Church in Keokuk."
